The other day, I was watching a trailer for the film Rolling Loud when I recognized a familiar face I don't see too often. That person happens to be… well, before I tell you, let's talk about this movie.
Rolling Loud is a scripted comedy coming out next month. It follows Owen Wilson's character, who takes his son to the Rolling Loud festival in Miami over the objections of the boy's mother. When the two get separated, he enlists the help of Travis Scott, Sexyy Red and comedian Matt Rife as he roams Hard Rock Stadium, getting himself into wild and wacky situations.
I know what you're thinking… product-placement film. And yeah, I kind of agree. But there haven't been any great comedies set at festivals, despite music festivals being this huge cultural experience that millions of people pay for each year. And Rolling Loud is a pretty unique event. If Live Nation made an ACL Fest movie or a Boston Calling movie, it would probably be kind of boring (unless the Boston Calling movie featured Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger or Ken Casey from the Dropkick Murphys — that might be some good shit).
