Editor's note: This story contains descriptions of alleged sexual misconduct.

A week after flyers branding Geordie Greep a rapist were handed out at his Vancouver show, the woman at the center of the allegation has given her own account — and it complicates the story for everyone involved. In an exclusive report published October 14, Paste Magazine spoke with the woman, identified by the pseudonym "Laura," and with Greep's now-former keyboardist Cameron Campbell. Laura says the former Black Midi frontman sexually assaulted her by kissing her while she was asleep. She also says, unequivocally, that she was not raped, and that the flyers were distributed without her knowledge or consent.

The result is a case where the accused artist's tour has collapsed, his band has walked, and the alleged victim is fighting two narratives at once: the one that minimized what happened, and the one that exaggerated it.

What Paste reported

According to Paste's account, Laura and a friend met Greep and Campbell at a Vancouver bar on the night of October 7, and the group later moved to an acquaintance's apartment. Laura told Paste she had made clear several times that night — including to Greep directly — that she was in an exclusive relationship. Around 5 a.m., after a night of drinking, she fell asleep on a couch. She says she woke to Greep kissing her on the lips, pushed him off and yelled at him to get off.
